Orthotics... [Jul. 23rd, 2006|09:39 am]
Scott Baio Ain't Got Nothing On Me
I was fitted for custom orthotics the other day. They are ending up costing a good chunk of money, but hopefully they will be worth it. I have been increasingly frustrated with my running over the course of this year. I just want everything to be normal. If the orthotics solve my problem, and all of the information I have received points to yes, I am going to run a marathon again next year. It would have been ten years since my first, and seven since my last.

[music |Soinc Youth]

Yesterday, I met K down at the U of M for the Gold Country 5K run. This is the first time I had run a step in almost 2 months. Back in early April, I injured my achilles in a race. I think it is tendinitis. I took all this time off for my injury to heal. I was going to run a half marathon for the first time in years at the end of May. I had to skip that. I also had to skip the Get in Gear (I was signed up to do both). I ran the Gold Country nice & slow, but after the race, I could still fee the stiffness & pain in my achilles. I guess I am going to have to see a doctor about it. I need to get back running again.

After the race, Kleczewski was going to take Whitney & I out for lunch as a wedding gift. He was going to take us to a new place downtown that he ate at for lunch one day, but could not remember the name. That should have clued me in. We arrived downtown, and we proceeded to Brits Pub. Now I knew something was up. We walked up to the rooftop patio, and there was most of my friends waiting for us. It was a little post wedding party. Actually, this was the first surprise party that was ever thrown for me. Cool Stuff. I had the English Cheese Plate for lunch, and Whitney had a pot pie. It was good to see everyone together again. I does not happen too often anymore.

Following the surprise party, Whitney & Nicole went out for a movie, & Kleczewski & I proceeded to Uptown for the Citypages Beer Fest. I have only been to one of these before, and that was in 2002. I did not drink nearly as much as I did that year, but I was feeling pretty good at the end of the night. My best line of the evening...

"Barkeep, let me try your most satanic of ales."

And one last beer thought, why is it that Pabst is just terrible, but they give out the best Swag at these kind of events???

I love it when you find an old song that you have never heard before, that you absolutley love. I'm sure you have all heard this before, but if you have not download The Highwayman by The Highwaymen. Johnny Cash, Wille Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and my namesake, Kris Kristofferson.

The bastards hung me in the spring of '25, but I am still alive....

Oh, I ran the Human Race 8K in Saint Paul this afternoon. My finishing time was 38:36. Not bad for the first race of the season. Not exactly sure what my next race will be. There is a 5K in Menasha in a few weeks when I will be in town. I might try that.

Reason Number 24 Why I Rule... [Mar. 19th, 2006|06:00 pm]

Billy, Katie, Tom, & I went out for St. Patrick's day to Kips Pub in St. Louis Park. It was an OK place, but not somewhere I would go out of my way to frequent.

Anyway, Billy brought along green food coloring (Acapulco circa 1996) to make the beer green. Unfortunately we drank Guinness and Black & Tans all night so you couldn't tell the beer was green. Fortunately, Guinness provides a wonderful foam at the top of the cup that you can draw designs in with a few drops of food coloring and a little straw.

Not too long before we left, I absconded with the little bottle of food coloring to the restroom. After I flushed the urinal, I left a few drops of green. Hopefully the next guy urinated with the joy of the season. Or with the luck of the Irish...

The Oscars, 2006 Version... [Mar. 7th, 2006|07:39 am]
Scott Baio Ain't Got Nothing On Me
I did not see a chunk of the movies up for the major awards this year. I did see Brokeback Mountain, Crash, Walk The Line, and North Country. I really want to see Capote and The Squid and The Whale, as well as a few of the others. I don't know exactly why I am compelled to watch the Academy Awards every year. The show is always so cheesey. My random thoughts...

Am I one of the few people that didn't think John Stewart was a bad host??? I thought he was great compared to a lot of the past appearances. I mean, I like Steve Martin but as an Oscar Host he really left something to be desired.

I loved the spoof political lobbying adds. Dames Against Dame Judy Dench. HA!

It took long enough, but I am glad someone finally recognized Philip Seymour Hoffman for the great actor he really is.

There was a moment in which one of the minor winners (Make-Up or Short Film made a joke about how she was greatful to the academy that she got to sit next to George Clooney at the Oscar Brunch. Then they flashed the camera to George, and he had a look on his face like "What the Fuck???"

Reese Witherspoon has come a long way since she stared with me in Overnight Delivery. She, best actress. Me, I extraed in Jingle All The Way and then fell off the face of the earth. Maybe I should give her the benefit of the doubt, but she really acted like a bitch during that scene. But that was a long time ago.

Anyway, here are the major awards for the films of 2005:

Best Picture: Crash
Best Director: Ang Lee, Brokeback Mountain
Best Actor: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Capote
Best Actress: Reese Witherspoon, Walk The Line
Best Supporting Actor: George Clooney, Syriana
Best Supporting Actress: Rachel Weisz, The Constant Gardener
Best Original Screenplay: Crash
Best Adapted Screenplay: Brokeback Mountain
Best Animated Feature: Wallace and Gromit in the Curse of the Were-Rabbit
Best Foreign Language Film: Tsotsi
Best Documentary: March of the Penguins

Fargo & Such.... [Mar. 4th, 2006|11:26 am]

[music |The Push Stars - Minnesota]

I'm sitting in Babs Coffee Shop in downtown Fargo at the moment. We are visiting Whitney's Mom for the weekend. Whitney is out shopping, and Marcia is at home. Fargo is having a film festival this week. We are attending the closing films: The Best of The Fest tonight. The Fargo Film Festival is no where near as big as the Minneapolis one, but the film we are seeing tonight sounds pretty good. It's called the Garage.

Let's see, less than two months until the wedding. We are both relieved that Northwest pilots reached a tentative agreement with the airline. We are flying Northwest to Miami (and then renting a convertible to drive to Key West). There was talks that if the pilots went on strike, the airline would fold. We would have been shit out of luck.

I signed up to run the Half Marathon in Fargo at the end of May. I have not run a half marathon since 2000. I have not run a full marathon since 1999. It will be a good thing for me to train for. Maybe while I am in Key West I can run on the beach...

Brrrrrrr.... [Feb. 18th, 2006|09:55 am]
Scott Baio Ain't Got Nothing On Me
Baby, it's cold outdside. Up until this weekend, we have had one of the mildest winters that I can remember. But we have had the coldest days in a decade over the past couple of days. And the cold is heightened by the fact that we have not had a proper winter to "toughen" us up.

I was supposed to go to Onaway this weekend for a little winter camp. It was canceled. I'm not quite sure why, but I'm sure it has something to do with the cold. Or perhaps the 13" of snow they got on Thursday (which totally bypassed the Twin Cites by about 50 miles).
